About Me

Hi, I'm Jerry Marsh. I'm a cartoonist. I was born in Traverse City, MI.

I started drawing at about the age of 3, when I would draw on the walls and on the floor. I've been a lifelong fan of comics, especially Peanuts, and later Garfield, Calvin and Hobbes, B.C., and countless other favorites.

I've also been a lifelong fan of animation. My favorites include Hanna-Barbera, Jay Ward, Warners, Tex Avery, and even Total TV.

In 1984 when I was 10 going on 11, my brother and I started drawing our own comic strip versions of our family. Originally titled Jerry and Everybody, later it just became Everybody. While my brother shortly quit drawing us, I however kept mine going. I even made a few crude flipbook animations of us. Unfortunately, only part of one animation, Frisbee Golf Fun (c. 1986) still exists. I drew Everybody until early 1993.

In 1995 I graduated from Leo Stoutsenberger's Cartoonerama correspondence course and in 2005 I graduated Lansing Community College with an Associates Degree in Animation. So far I've had comics published in the Houghton Lake Resorter and college newspapers. I've had 2 animations aired on TCTV2, a local Traverse City station.

I currently live in San Diego.

About Betsy and Carl

In 1989, when I was still drawing Everybody, I made up a very beautiful blond girl and inserted her into the strip, and in 1990 I gave her the name Betsy. In 1991 I created a kind of friend/love interest in the form of Carl Sexton. In 1993 as I was ending Everybody I married them and then gave them their own cartoon, with a dog June and a baby girl Mary. Originally called Carl Sexton, in 1994 I retitled it Carl and Betsy. In 1995 my first strip of them was printed in the Houghton Lake Resorter and even appeared in a coloring book for said paper in early 1996 and 1997. In 2000, I made my first Carl and Betsy animation June-in-a-Box. Several little animations followed. In 2001 I made a little game of them. In 2014, this being Betsy's 25th birthday, I retitled it Betsy and Carl. Thus far they've been in several 1-minute animations and many many strips. I even have a Betsy and Carl Facebook page.
